Why send your child to boarding school? Often, because your child chooses his or her own course! Not every child is suited to boarding life, but it is interesting to note that many of our boarders have nagged and persuaded their parents to let them board. The benefits are many: no long journey to and from school; the company of friends; taking responsibility; fun!
Pastoral Care is of paramount importance and it stems from the boarding ethos. Boarders live in School House - girls on the first floor, boys on the second floor. They enjoy a powerful sense of community, learning to mix with each other, and with adults, in the evenings and at weekends. They live in a secure environment where they have no fear of reprisal or reprimand - yes, they get into trouble, but the course followed afterwards is one that is communicative, sensitive, focussed on learning, growth and personal development.
Some children board for 1 night a week, but this quickly rises so that by the time a pupil is in Year 8, he or she may well be staying at the school all week and sometimes at weekends. To others, it is their home during term-time. Evenings see free time to relax or participate in games or other activities.
Weekends provide a blend of leisure 'down time' with a host of organised activities. On a Sunday, children may be walking, swimming, skating or bowling. We have regular 'special' weekends when the theme might be sport, art, technology or music. They are popular with day child and boarder alike.
