Events and Activities

Wednesday 1st May 2013 - Canada Night

Saturday 2nd March 2013 - Big Weekend VI

On Saturday night 'The Big Weekend' saw 55 children attempt some unusual tasks in a bid to win their place in the first edition of the Moor Park Book of Records. With 22 different activities on offer it was great fun to see such sights as Lara putting on 15 T-Shirts in a minute or Tommy chomping his way through 3 cream crackers in an extraordinary 70 seconds. Will managed to hold 17 golfballs in one hand, while Isaac put on 18 socks (onto the same foot!)in 1 minute. To see a full list of the record holders look out for the Book of Records which will be published before the end of term. We finished the evening off with a late night movie and, after a well earned lie in, a delicious Full English Sunday breakfast.

Wednesday 23rd January 2013 - Harry Potter Night

Last night we were treated to a 'magic' evening. The school resembled Hogwarts and the children dressed up as their favorite Harry Potter characters. Quidditch played in the sports hall was a great success with requests for it to be put on the regular activity timetable. Wand making left a trail of glitter around the school and a candle-lit quiz in the library revealed a number of Harry Potter experts. There then followed a walk in the snow with various characters testing the children's spell making as they made their way past Dementors, spiders and finally Voldermort.

Wednesday 31st October 2012 - Fright Night

The beds were fully booked in anticipation of the best Fright Night ever. How were we going to top last year’s ghost walk through the woods? Were the Year 8s going to be too cool to join in? We need not have worried. Over 100 children queued in fancy dress for supper: a terrifying sight. Guts and Brains and Spuds with Blood were wolfed down and then the fun began. The Year 8s were whisked off in mini-buses to the darkest South Shropshire woods. There they ‘enjoyed’ a spooky walk and scary story before being dropped back at school for the ‘cellar walk’.

Year 3 – 7 stocked up on sweets as they tricked and treated their way around the staff houses before a ghost walk with more scary extras than the Thriller video. Hot chocolate and a story in the candle lit front hall ended ‘the best ever’ Fright Night.

Wednesday 3rd October - Australian Night

This term it was time for the Australian Gappies to introduce a piece of home to the boarders. With over 90 boarders in to enjoy the experience the pressure was on for the Gap team to create a night to remember. Handmade burgers, honey dampers over the fire-pit, kangaroo relays, food tasting and an Aussie quiz were the order of the day. All agreed that it was another great night at Moor Park.

Saturday 22nd September - The Big Weekend V - H2O

We were blessed by a perfect September day for this term's Big Weekend. More than 80 children enjoyed water fights, a giant water slide, fun in the pool with the new inflatables, a campfire and marshmallows. After a movie before bed and a lie in early risers had another dip in the pool before a full English breakfast.

Saturday 19th May - The Big Weekend - Rodeo

After weeks of wet weather we we lucky to have a dry night for the Cowboy Rodeo night. Activities included a bucking bronco machine, archery,  rifle shooting, horse shoe throwing, lasso, toasting marshmallows and singing around the campfire and a delicious barbeque. On Sunday morning everyone went for a pre-breakfast swim before tucking in to a full-English breakfast. The fancy dress outfits were fantastic and most children agreed that this was the best Big Weekend so far.

Wednesday 9th May - Cornish Night

Some would say that the weather tonight was very appropriate for a Cornish themed evening - wet and windy! It did not dampen the spirits of the children. Emma had 'imported' genuine Cornish Pasties, which were delicious, and supper was accompanied by the Worzels. They were then introduced to the game of Hurling, learned the Furry Dance, built a paper boat and completed a fact filled quiz.

Wednesday 14th March - Spanish Night

A taste of Spain came to Moor Park tonight. The Paella was very popular and activities included Flamenco dancing, Pinata and the chance for the children to demonstrate their matador skills. A big thank you ot Martin for being the bull!

Saturday 4th February - The Big Weekend - Masterchef

Inspired by Masterchef, this weekend was a foodies delight.  As well as making and baking their own bread rolls the children designed and ate pizzas, took part in eating challenges (How many chococlate drops can you eat in a minute using chopsticks? Can you eat 2 cream crackers in 60 second?) and also tested their knowledge of different ingredients. A dozen different cheeses, fruits, herbs and spices were laid out for them to taste and identify. They also had to try and match a variety of different cuts of meat with 2 big pictures of a cow and a pig! As ever the evening ended with a movie and a Full English Breakfast when they got up in the morning. The added extra of a covering of snow meant just one thing. A huge snowball fight and sledging before breakfast. Fantastic!

Wednesday 23rd November - 'New Zealand Night'

Wednesday 2nd November - 'Fright Night'

This was a spooktacular evening. Every bed in the boarding house was booked and the boys and girls had a night to remember. After a fantastic halloween supper, in amazing decorated dining rooms that Count Dracula would have been proud of,  the children then went off in groups to enjoy the "frights". After fun games, the next step was a "Thriller" dance experience.  The children then found themselves being led into a candle lit cellar to hear a ghost story before the highlight. A truly scary walk into the woods to visit the last resting place of "Bloody Mary"  and the witch of the lake.

Saturday 15th October - 'The Big Weekend'

60 children, 7 challenges, 150 packs of sweets, a late night movie, pre-breakfast swim and a Full English before going home. What a great night.

South African Night - Wednesday 28th September

We were all entertained tonight by an evening organised by our very own South African Gappie, Mike Hornsey. The evening began with a meat feast, including Boerewors and bowls of Biltong washed down with Cream Soda. A South African quiz and Duster Hockey were followed by a screening of 'Mr Bones' , accompanied by Mike's favourite sweets.

The Big Weekend - Saturday 2nd July

Our first "Big Weekend" was a huge success. Over sixty boys and girls enjoyed a treasure hunt, dodge ball, an amazing BBQ, toasted marshmallows around the campfire, a late night movie and after a night in the dorms they had a swim before a full English breakfast. The next "Big Weekend" is on Saturday 15th October.

The Big Weekend - Mega Dodgeball

Bush Supper - Wednesday Nights

This term many of the boarders have been cooking their own supper. Mr Duffield and Mr Crew have been taking groups across the stream to the bamboo grove to cook filled tortillas and chocolate filled bananas - Delicious!

Pamper Night – Saturday 11th March

The girls got together this weekend for an evening of relaxation and pampering.  We made and decorated biscuits and concocted face masks from oats and honey and cucumber and mint.  It was a messy evening but the girls were even more beautiful by the time they had finished!

American Night – Wednesday 23rd February

We had a full house for our American Night, laid on by Mr and Mrs Bartlett.  The children dressed up and tucked into a truly American feast, the highlight of which was the build their own Ice cream Sundaes!  They had an American quiz and then watched the movie ‘Big’.  They had a fantastic time and thanks go to the Bartletts for organising the event.

Valentines Disco – Thursday 10th February

Pink and red was the theme as the children glammed up for a night of dinner and dancing.  The ate a ‘posh’ supper in the dining rooms and then boogied the night away.  DJ for the night was Julian Chesshire who did a great job of getting everybody moving.
