Kindergarten (3 to 4 years)
Children move into Kindergarten, which is adjacent to the Nursery classrooms in the September following their third birthday.
Kindergarten children are encouraged to develop their skills, and play and learn together in a happy indoor and outdoor environment. They attend full time or part time with the expectation of attending full time in preparation for their start into Reception.
The children in Kindergarten learn to take part in both teacher led activities and in those which they initiate themselves. They are given time to investigate, to become really involved and to complete activities. The classroom environment and their teachers play a key role in supporting and extending the children’s development and learning. We follow topics, which introduce the children to the wider world. As part of topic work the children in Kindergarten role-play different scenarios and bring their own experiences into their play.
The children in Kindergarten share their playground with Nursery. All the toys and equipment allow the children to learn by working in a larger environment and offer new challenges. Whether it is on the bikes and scooters or on the climbing frame, the children always seem to be having fun.
Throughout a child’s time in Kindergarten we are encouraging their independence ready for their transition into Reception and the main school.
