Reception (4 to 5 years )
The Reception classrooms are situated next to the Nursery and Kindergarten. Children move on from Kindergarten to Reception in the September following their fourth birthday and attend five days a week. Children have numerous opportunities to explore the outdoor environment (making dens in the woods, pond dipping in the lake) along with developing their literacy and numeracy skills in the classroom. For some children their time at Moor Park begins in Reception, although many will have already been in Nursery or Kindergarten.
Each morning before the children start working, they have an opportunity to play and there are lots of things to choose from. Lego and drawing are favourites but there may be the Baker’s shop to open, with dough to be made into bread and cakes . The official school day starts with assembly and then there is a story, perhaps from the Bible. The morning is usually spent talking, listening, reading, writing and doing number work. But there are lots of other things to find out about too. The children may discover about the world ‘All Around Us” (that means around Ludlow as well as around the school) or things that happened ‘A Long Time Ago’ (that means making shields and eating off old fashioned platters). Or you might find out about ‘Water’ or ‘Plants’ or ‘Food & Farming’
Lunch is taken in the big dining room with the girls and boys from Year One and Year Two. At playtimes Reception children go on to the big playground. There is a climbing frame and swings and a Wendy house – and bats and balls to play with too, or they may use the Nursery/Kindergarten playground – however old the children are, they still love the tricycles!
In the afternoon there may be PE or dancing, art or a chance to use the computers in the ICT room. A special teacher comes in to teach singing and percussion. Wellies are the order of the day for our walks around the schools beautiful grounds where the children build dams, play games in the woods, watch the seasons change - and lots more!
