Year 3  (7 to 8 years )

Children move on from Year Two to Year Three in the September following their seventh birthday and attend five days a week in the Michaelmas Term.

Year Three is a transitional year when children are in the top Lower School year group while their classrooms are situated next to the Upper School classrooms. They are given more responsibility and independence, moving around classrooms for some specialist lessons including ICT, science, French, art, DT, music. They attend Games sessions in the afternoons alongside Year 4 children and will start to play sports fixtures against other schools.

Throughout the year, the children enjoy going on a variety of trip ranging from ‘The Police Station’; The Secret Hills Visitors Centre to make a fossil; to a beach while studying Coasts. There are many memorable days.

We have visitors who come into school and assist the children with their learning. Ludlow Museum come and talk to Year Three about the Egyptians and Greeks using a range of artefacts to stimulate the children’s interest.

All children in Year Three participate in a dramatics production, which is held in the outdoor theatre in the woods. It is a magical setting.

The Moor Park grounds are used in all curriculum areas for inspiration throughout the year. For example, in Science Year Three look at different building materials and habitats and go for walks around the school.

Every week Year Three enjoy going to DT and Art where they design and create using a wide range of materials and developing their skills. They use their sketch books to plan when they embark on a new project. Their models range from hand drawn pictures to creatures made from clay or wood.  Those who play an instrument are invited to perform at the Informal music Concerts throughout the year.

They have lunch and share the same breaks as Year Four, which helps ease the transition to the Upper School. As the year progresses, Saturday school is introduced.

Everyday after school the children can choose from a range of activities to do with their friends in a relaxed safe environment.

One of the highlights in Year Three is boarding at the Tree House, which many choose to do one or two nights a week. It has been incredibly popular.
